Screenshot of the Public Media H1N1 Widget
FluPortal and NPR have produced a new widget to display public media H1N1 coverage. Stations and the public are welcome to embed this widget on their websites. The widget provides a window into how communities across the nation are addressing the threat of the swine flu pandemic.
The new widget uses Daylife, a content syndication and curation service, to aggregate public media H1N1 content. NPR uses the Daylife service to power the topics.npr.org section of the NPR website. For this widget, Daylife scrapes content from a preselected list of station feeds and grabs articles with references to H1N1 (and related terms). The widget auto-updates with the latest stories and orders the content by publication date.
Sample Customization:
The widget has a number of customizable options. You alter parameters in the embed code to adjust widget size, background color, title text, and enable/disable story summaries.
Note: This is just a portion of the embed code below. You need to customize the relevant Javascript call within the Embed to customize the widget.

show_excerpts = 1 (yes) 0 (no)
title = H1N1 News from Flu Portal
limit = 5 articles
You can also adjust the width, color, and other style elements within the code. If you would like assistance, contact the FluPortal team and we will be happy to help you customize the look of the widget for your website.
There is also an RSS feed available providing the same public media h1n1 content as the widget. If stations prefer, they can display the RSS feed on their websites instead of embedding the widget.

Similar content parameters apply to the RSS feed. Adjust the number of items and a choice to include/exclude item descriptions.
